National Franchise or Independent Boutique Firm | Which is Better for Buyers and Sellers?

July 31, 2018 By Brad & Darleen Pratt

As a home buyer or home seller in Massachusetts, there are many different real estate firms and agents to choose from. Some firms are national franchises and others independent boutiques. Here’s a look at which is better for buyers and sellers?

Working with Agents at National Franchise Firms

There are many benefits to working with agents at national franchises, such as RE/MAX. First and foremost is the access to resources. Big firms often have a wealth of resources at their disposal including:

  • A network of real estate agents.
  • Professional service providers for referrals.
  • Specialized marketing tools.
  • Technology and communication tools.

Second is the brand recognition. There is instant credibility that comes with a well-known name. National franchises also develop strong training programs, which can lead to more knowledgeable agents with greater technical know-how. All of this benefits both agents and their clients!

Working with Independent Boutique Firms

There are many different types of independent boutique firms. Some are large and others small. Most focus on a very defined geographic area, so they tend to be more specialized when it comes to location. Additionally, with less structure and restrictions in place, agents from boutique firms may have more flexibility in the way that they do business.

National Franchises Can Be Boutique-Like as Well

It’s important to note that national franchises can have many of the characteristics of boutique firms. Since franchises are often independently owned and location-specific, their agents may be as location-focused as boutique firms. Additionally, although they may have standard procedures in place, they may still have the flexibility to explore unique paths beyond it. Many agents work for national franchises with locally owned offices because they offer the benefits of a boutique firm with the added perks of a national franchise. It’s really the best of both worlds.

Team Pratt is proud to be affiliated with RE/MAX on the Charles, a local franchise office of RE/MAX International with physical offices in Waltham.
